MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeiiug of this Board was beld]in the Road Board office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 17th instant. MEMBERS PRESENT. The Hon J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs 0. G. Tripp, R. Mackay, and J. Heney. minutes. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. The following tenders for the various work* were accepted :

No. 17 contr: it, Widening Bridle track to Clayton—William McLeod, £6O ; No. 28, draining at Sherwood Downs—Dennis Coffey, £5 per chain for main drain, and 2s 6d per chain for aids drains ; No. 29, fencing near Fairlie Creek—Christopher Breekan, post and wire 16s per chain, stakes and bank 8s ll|d per chain; No. 30 building shed near Fairlie Creek—Michael Lynch, £110; No. 31, shingling Cartwright’s road —N. P. Bracefield, £llO 13s* No. 32, shingling near Robb’s but— Timothy Coffey, £l9 10s ; No 33, forming on Kakahu and Burke’s Pass road

CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered : From the Post-office and Telegraph Department, Wellington. of the Post and Telegraph Office now called “ Woodbridge” is altered to “Bangitata.” The Clerk was directed to acknowledge the receipt of the same with thanks.

From the Public Works Office, enclosing the plan of a diversion of road in the Orari Gorge. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, granting the Board permission to take possession of the piece of land applied for near Fairlie Creek. The Clerk to acknowledge receipt of the same.

From Mr J. H. Raioe, requesting that the formation of the road near Deep Creek be continued over the Downs. The Overseer informed the Board that it would be advisable to deviate from the surveyed .lire of road in order to get a better gradient on to the Downs. The Clerk was directed to reply and explain the necessity of a deviation, and should he consent to the alteration the work would be proceeded with. From Mr L. Harper, consenting to the proposed alteration of road on the Kakahu and Burke’s Pass road, upon condilion that part of the road abandoned be closed and conveyed to the owner of the Raincliff estate, and that two cuttings be make by the Board giving access to parts of the property now under cultivation. Resolved—“ That the proposed terms he agreed to.” From Messrs Morris and Gall, requesting that plans and specification for works in the western part of the district be placed for inspection at Fairlie Creek. The request was agreed to. From Mr G. J. Dennistoun, calling the attention of the Board to the state of the Main road to the Bangitata railway station, and requesting that the shingle might be blinded with clay or any other steps taken, that the Board may deem advisable to make the road passable. The C'eik was directed to forward a copy of the letter to the Geraldine Road Board, and state that the Mount Peel Board will be happy to share the cost of the work sagged by Mr Dennistoun. From Mr Wheelband, iu reference to his offer for planting. The Clerk was directed to reply and inform him that the Board do not intend planting any more this season. . From Mr M. Mitton, asking permission to p } ace a gate across the road leading up the Bangitata river ; also a.king for a feYr drain pipes to lengthen a culvert across the road leading to the Mount Peel station. The request was granted. From Mr F. Newman, requesting the Boa-d to place a footbridge across the creek near Peel Forest. The Overseer w as requested to have the work done. From Mr .Thomas Blair, In reference to the road leading over the Orari downs. Resolved—“ That Mr Tripp and Mr Heney inspect the road and advise what is to be doneINSTEUCTIONS. The Clerk was directed to write to Mr Shaw, requesting him to survey the diversion of road in the Orari gorge ;to write to the Chief Surveyor, asking if the line reserved along the north Branch of the Opuha river, along the boundary of sections 31887 and 32881, was intended for a road. The Overseer was instructed to prepare plans of a concrete culvert, to be built in tbe deep gully in Peel Forest, with estimate of cost, to submit to the Board at its next meeting. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £1287 Os 9d were passed for payment. ADJOURNMENT. The meeting then adjourned.
