In the House of Commons last night in the course of the debate on the Irish Land Bill, the Right Hon W, E. Gladstone made a speech in which he remonstrated against the action ot the Opposition towards the Bill, and hinted that the- Government were prepared, if
necessary, to demand urgency in order to ensure its speedy passage through. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, is s4t 48s 6d ; New Zealand whsat, 45s 6d ; Adelaide flpgr, ex warehouse,J34s ; Australian tallow, best beef, per cwt. 34s 6d ; best mutton, 36s 6d. At the wool sales to-day 9700 bales were offered. A firm demand was again experienced.

In the House of Commons to-day a motion re affi ruing the principle of local option in connection with the licensing laws was, after a h-nthy debate, carried on a division by a majority of 42, In the House of Commons to-day, a Bill providing for the closing of publichouses in Wales on Sunday was read a third time and passed.

AUSTRALIAN, Sydney, June 15, A carpenter who has lately been working at a house in Lower George street opposite the residence of Chung a Chinese merchant, whose child has been suffeiing from small-pox, has caughq the disease. He resides with fourteen other persons ip, a house at Surrey Mill, The house has been quarantined by the police, and the neighbors are leaving the locality. Another European has been attacked with small pox. The sufferer resides in Cumberland street, some little distance from the scene of the first outbreak at the residence of Chung in George street. Alarm, throughout the neigh borhood and city generally is increasing.
