Battery, a mere boyof fifteen years of age, who, on seeing things come to a crisis and the guns in imminent danger of being captured by theenemy’s cavalry, gallantly rode up of his own accord to General Nut tall and be-, sought that officer with the NativeCavalry to save the guns. The General,, it is stated, replied, ‘My lad, I’ll do my best.’ The boy thereupon, placing him-, self at the head of the cavalry, charged theenemy, and came out of the fight with his sword covered with blood. I have given this story as it was related to me a few days ago by the men of the battery, who respect and admire the lad for the cool-, ness and courage displayed by him on that; eventful day.”.
