THE FRENCH IRONCLAD NAVY.
France has now eighteen Ironclads at sea, seven, of which, with broadside batteries, are plated trom stem to stern; seven including the Richelieu, plated to the water line, with: .steel-plated central forts and side-turrets ; two plated to the water-line, with steel plated battery. The .latter, the Solferino, is a Bister sh'p to the Magenta, which was lost five years ago. under circumstances similar tc those which havejust happened to the Richelieu. Anrnigstthesceigbteen vessel* the. Admiral Duperro and the Devastation are now being completed. There are "besides seven other ironclads of the largest model on the stocks, amongst which are the Adnvral Bandin and the Foudroyahf, forming a total, both *t sea or in construction, of twentyfive first-class ironclads.
