We are requested to state that the portrait of the proposed town clock (mentioned in the letter published by us last week) is now on view at Mr Hugh Black’s, watchmaker, Main South Read. We would recommend all to go and inspect the same, as it will enable them to form a better idea of the size of the clock than we could give. We might also state that Father Fauvel, who was in Christchurch last week, availed himself of that opportunity to show the portrait to a gentleman who has had a number of years’ practical experience with clocks of a simi* lar description, and he assures him that it is the very best procurable. For the last quarter of 1880, there was a decrease of 1393 in the number of telegrams, and of £6ll in value, as compared with the last quarter of 1,879. There was an increase in the value of Government telegrams of £Bl4 during the same period. —Hawera Star.
