A curiosity in journalistic literature lias been' brought under the % notice of the-Auckland Herald. It consists in a, copy of the Times for a.©, 1980, and the sheets are filled with extremely ingenious forecasting. In the Parliamentary summary supplied;-for example in the House of Ladies, Mrs Antipodes is represented as presenting a petition praying s for a direct railway from London to New Zealand, with branch lines to the various colonies of the flourishing kingdom, whilst in tho House of Peeresses their s Ladyships reported to be ordering l a : return of the costbf bringing the waters of the Nile to the, metropolis. In the era treated -of railway accidents appear to be out of date, but a tong and sensational article is headed “Terrible Balloon Collision/' Another article is devoted to furnishing the'editor seems to think that the people of a -hundred years hence will be capable ! of numerous feats of an equally onerous nature. - The advertisement columns are full of notices 1 -indicating considerable imaginative power on the part of the writers of the piper 5 ; yet few ..or none of the announcements appear more absurd than many of the protected inventions of the present day would have appeared to our forefathers of ! a hundred years ago: The paper, which is got up in tolerably exact imitation of the ■Times, is very - readable and -ihirthpro©king* I 1
