Melbourne, Feb. 2. The following Exhibition awards were announced to-dgy :—R. W, Bartlett, for views of New. Zealand and portraits; W. Collie,. Napier, forphotographs ; Mr William. Hanwell, Greymouth, for photographs.; Marshall, and Copeland, Dunedin, and Royse, Stead and Co., Christchurch,for malt: ■ Feb. 3. % The following further Exhibition awards have been announced :-rFirst prize :C. A. Palmer, Waimea West, y Nelson, for hops. . Second prizes : W. Gulden, of Christchurch, for malt.;; Thomas Harley, of Nelson, for hops and malt; S. Mann : ng and Coof Christchurch, lor malt and barley ; West and , Co., of Christchurch, for malt. Third prizes : W, Cuddm, of Christchurch for malt ; P. Cunningham and Co., of Christchurch, for malt. Arrived—Albion from the Bluff. The railway between Gerogery and Albany, New South Wales,, was. opened to day, and s communication
between Melbourne and Sydney is now completed. The opening ceremony was performed by the Hon. John Lacey, L of New S:Uth Wales, Minister for puhline opened and delivered a congratulatory address, in the course of which he expatiate 1 upon the benefits to h' derived by the completion of commun e - tion between Melbourne and Sydney. The Hon Graham Berry, the Hon J. B. Patterson, Sir Henry Parkes, and S;r Patrick Jennings were present, together with an assemblage of fully 2000 persons. The whole proceedings passed off with great eclat, and were followed by a luncheon. A grand ball and supper to-night will conclude the festivals. The following furthei Exhibition awards are published :—Second prizes: Chamber of Commerce, Oamaru, tor photographs of Oamaru ; N.K. Cherrill, of Christchurch 5 Clifford and Morris, of Dunedin, and J. J Taylor, of Motueka, Nelson, for photographs. Third prizes: J. Bragge and W. B. Gibbs, 01 Wellington, and —Brunton, ol Dunedin, for photographs. Sydney, Feb. 3. Two men have been arrested at Eanabalong, charged with the murder of James O’Makin 1876. Sailed—Eingarooma, for Auckland. Alrany. Feb. 2. The P. and O. Company’s steamship Peshawur with inward Suez mails has ""arrived in King George’s Sound, en route for Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. Brisbane, Feb. 2. An enthusiastic meeting was held last evening under the presidency of the Hon.—O’Dogherty, M.L.C., at which resolutions were adopted that branches of the Irish Land League should be formed. A vote of thanks to Mr Parnell was also passed.
