Letters appear iu the Argus drawing attention to the disagreement which exists between the New Zealand and New South Wales Governments regarding the ta iff for telegraphic messages between Australia and New Z'aland. Negotiations for reductions of the tariff consequent on the departure of the cablerepairing ship Agnes from Australia were proceeding for some time, but finally failed. The New Zeal ml Government has, however, reduced the rates on messages from New Zealand, but charges from Australia remain at the original rate. The Argus, referring to the communications, supports the proposal which the correspondents make, that the matter in dispute between the two Governments should be referred to the Intercolonial Conference which will meet in Sydney on the 13th inst.
The awards for wool exhibits at the Exhibition were announced to day. New Zealand exhibitors take the following prizes :In merinos Gollon, of Mangataratu, second ; in scoured merino —Young and Dalgety, of Omarama, first ; in long scoured—Williams, of Mangahuhu, second ; in long unwashed —Tanner, of Riverslea, second ; Blair, of Wanganui, third.

In the Cexio Bay Regatta the Victorian yacht Janet was first, with the Auckland yacht Taniwha second. The ship Hereford, bound from London to this port, has become a tota wreck on Cape Patten (Cape Paterson on the Victorian coast!) . AH lives have been saved.
The South Australian, West Australian, Tasmanian, and Victorian delegates to the Intercolonial Conference leave Melbourne to-morrow for Sydney. Sailed—Union Company’s steamship llingarooraa, tor the Bluff.
Sir Samuel Wilson takes the champion prize for wool at the Exhibition. The show of grain and agricultural produce at the Exhibition opens on the 23rd February. Cooktown, Jan. 11. Further news to baud confirms the information received yesterday of the massacre of the Chinese crew of the schooner Prosperity by the natives of Lowde Island, and states that the bodies were smoke diied and the heads sent to the various villages. Brisbane, Jan. 10.
Mr Skuthorpe telegrams from the Blackall that he has discovered the grave of Classon, and has also obtained evidence as to the fate of Leichardt, the explorer. A junk has arrived at Cooktown, and reports that the crew of the schooner Prosperity, consisting of nine Chinese, have been slaughtered by the natives, of the Leucade Islands, near Guinea. The captain of the achooqer succeeded in escaping,
The Queensland Government have issued a map showing the route of the proposed trans-continental railway to the Gulf of Carpentaria, and the grand trunk line of South Au.-tralia from Roma in this Colony.
