MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

A meeeting of the above Board was h -Id in the Riad Board office, Peel Forest on Tuesday, the 4th inst PRESENT. The Honorable J. Barton, A Acland (Chairman), Messrs G. G. Tripp. J. Heney and R. Mackay. minutes; The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. correspondence . The following correspondence was read and considered From the Chief Surveyor forwarding plans and descriptions of roads proposed to be closed on Raincliff. Resolved—- “ That the clerk acknowledge the receipt of the same, and that the consideration of the matter stand over till after the election of the new Board. From the Colonial Secretary informing the Board that the Road Board office, Peel Forest, and the Road Board Shed, Raincliff, has been proclaimed polling places for the election of members of the Board. From the General Crown Lands Office Wellington, stating that the necessary steps have .been taken for vesting reserves 18t3, 2163 and 2167 in the Board. From the Geraldine Road Board eninclosing a letter from Messrs Glar’ce and McMaster in reference to repairing the Road on the north side of the Oputia River. The Overseer was instructed to inspect the road and report at next meeting. From Mr R. McMillon requesting permission to erect a gate across the road le ding up the Orari gorge. The application was granted subject to the approval of the site by the Overseer.

From the Ashburton County Council forwarding copy ofcorres pond once between the Council and the General Man igcrof Railways relative to the preseet railway tariff and requesting the co-operation of the Board in protesting against the same. The matter was deferred for future consideration.

From Messrs Morris and Hay forwarding the now maps of the district with an account for compiling the same. The maps were inspected by the Board and approved of, and the account was passed for payment.

Mr T. Newman had an interview with the Board in reference to his engagement as pound keeper. The matter was deferred for considera tion of the new Board.

The clerk was directed to apply for a copy of The Registration of Brands Act, 1880, and “ The Dog Tax Act.” To write to the Minister for Public W orks enclosing copy of the correspondence in reference to the road in the Orari Riverbed, and requesting him to return the plan ot the road which had been sent to the Public Works Office on November 10th, 1875. To write to the chief surveyor request iug that the road leading to the Mount Peel church be laid down on the public maps.

Accounts to the amount of L 194 Gs were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
