MOUNT PEEL ROAD DISTRICT.
ANNUAL MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
The annual meeting of ratepayers of the above district was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Tuesday, the 4th inst P a large numbur of ratepayers being present. The Hon. J. G. A. Acland, Chairman of the Board, presided. MINUTES. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman then lead the advertisement calling the meeting, and stated the object for which they were met, viz., to elect tlmee members to serve on the Board in room of the retiring members, and to receive the report of the proceedings of the Board for the past year. He then road a statement of accounts showing the receipts and expenditure and of the various works undertaken and carried out in the district during the year, at which the meeting expressed approval. A new map of the district, compiled by Messrs J. Morris and J. Hay of the survey office, Christchurch, on the scale af 20 chains to an inch, was submitted for the inspection of the meeting and was approved of. The Returning Officer then called upon those present to nominate candidates to fill the vacancies, when the following gentlemen were duly proposed and seconded, viz., the Hon. J. B. A. Acland, Messrs John Heney, Charles George Tripp, George James Dennistoun, and James Pithie. The Returning Officer called for a show of hands for the various candidates which resulted largely in favour of the Hon. J. B. A. Acland, Mr Tripp, and Mr Dennistoun. A pdll was demanded by Mr Heney. The Returning Officer declared that the poll would be taken at the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, and at the Road Board Shed, Raincliff, on Friday, the 7th inat, between the hours of 12 noon and 4 p.m. The Hon. J. B. A. Acland, Mr Dennistoun [and Mr Tripp then addressed the meeting. The application of the Geraldine County Council for a grant of £SOO towards the erection of a bridge across the Opihi river was discussed. The meeting, while admitting the utility of such a work, were fully of opinion that they had no power of appropriating any funds of the Board for construction of works outside of the district.
Proppsed by Mr Heney, seconded by Mr Dennistoun, and'carried, “That an abstract of the accounts be published in the Timaru Herald, and that copies of the same be printed for distribution among the ratepayers.” The Hon. J. B. A. Acland proposed a vote of thanks to the Clerk and Overseer to the Board, which was carried unanimously. A unanimous vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
