Messrs Maclean and Stewart report- for the past fortnight as follows Horses —Their entries at their yards on Saturdays have been considerably over the average number, between 30 and 40 animals having pas ed under the hammer both weeks, and a- considerable amount of business has been done, though the prices obtained have not been high, the greater bulk of the stock offered (with the execution of a splendid team of 6) not being first-class. In the class of hacks there have been a number of firstclass roadsters offered, and a good many have changed hands at fair values. They have shld first c.ass draughts at from £32 to £39 ; medium, £23 to £2B -• light harness,'from £16.t0 £2O; good hack, at from £lB to £22 ; light and inferior, LS -o bl2.
Cattle. They have to report rather a decline .in the prices of store cat tle ; but this will only be a temporary'' one, owing to' the very dry weather, and'if ruin comes now, former prices will, in all likelihood, be obtained, if not increased. At Winchester on Wednesday week last, they sold over -10 head from various owners'at from L32s6d to 1-3 I7s6d for mixed cattle, Ll 10s for 2 year olds, cow's ftt L 5 to LG, and yearlings at L2 7s Gcl. At the yards hero lusf Thursday entered 95 head, all of which, with a very,few. exceptions, found.buyers,.at fair 1 rates, viz.., from Ll ss, L 5 2s 6d, and LG for well grown steers' and heifers, L3-5s for- eighteen months old steers and heifers, L 3 125.6 d for-good yearlings, and L2 to L2 7s 6,d for.calves; Fat cattle —They have.no transactions of ini port a tree’ to-repori > but quote prime quality of beef at 20s per 1001 b.
Sheep.—/They report the-ma:ket for store sheep very active, with a very short supply, especially of cross bred si The demand for these at present SCems to be unlimited. T hey 1 quote present values at. from Cs 6d to 7s for cross-bred ew'es and wethers, and 5s 6d to 6s for merino wethers. - They have placed 1000 cross-’breds and 100 J merino wethers privately at - good figures.;- Fat, sheep at pi’esent are very plentiful, and prices'much the same as when they last reported, viz’, Incite Ijd per lb.
Mr K. F. Gray reports for the fortnight ending Saturday. Goo. 11. as follows : Sliebp.—The demand for store cross-breds poill continues actave, ; and he has placed several lots during the past iveek at prices fully up.; to owner's’ expectations. The following are the prices obtained for the various lots ; —2BO fat cross b ed wethers, 9s 9d : ,493 cress bred ewes an'! lambs, 11s 6d ; 300 store-Dross;, 7s 6d ; 40 do, 6s 9d. Fat sheep he may fairly quote at l£d to Ifd. . Cattle?—He sold- :at- Winchester Fair, on Wednesday, December Ist, 29 head stores, '£s 15s.
Horses.—There are a good many inquiries for heavy draughts, but none of the.right ptanip are offering . ■;
