BREACHES OF BEER DUTY STAMP ACT.

Wellington, Dec. 4. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning Wm. Donald, brewer, was tinea £2O for neglecting to affix and have cancelled a stamp on a barrel of beer sent out of his brewery. Two publicans, for receiving unstamped beer were fined five shillings and costs. Mr Watt held that he had no power to mitigate the fine against the brewer. The Magistrates have convicted the pro* prietor of the Albion Hotel for having in his possession seven boxes of cigars not bearing the stamps required by the Act. The Magistrates were of the opinion that there was no attempt to defraud the revenue, and expressed a hope that the penalty would be mitigated, Dunedin, Dec. 4. At the City Court, William Strachan, brewer, for neglecting to affix a duty stamp on five hogsheads of beer, was fined £2O for each cask, and beer forfeited. A like information against J. Kuttze was dismissed.
