'lt is not known how the fire originated. Two men were on the premises at the t’nie cleaning engines, and so quickly did the flames spread that they had barely . time to escape. The building was completely destroyed and also thirty three tramcars, seven engines, and an immense quantity of oats. The insurances were :—New Zealand L2ooo ; Victoria, L15oo; Standard, Lsoo ; Norwhich Union, Llooo, London and Lancashire, Llooo 'j Trans atlantic, Llooc ; Australian Alliance Lsooo ; National, Llooo ; Hamburg; Llooo. Total, L 9500. It is almost certainly a case of incendiarism., The amounts abovenamed were obtained from the insurance agents’ but Mr Frond foot says •he is insu'-ed for LU.ooo, and be estimates , his loss at L7ooo above this, without reckoning the loss by suspension of traffic • Only three cars are left, and cable messages will be sent to America tomorrow for others.
