The Conference of the Australian Colonies is now sitting, and is making very favorable nrogre>s towards giving fuller scope tor extending the powers of the proposed Federal Council ? and in dealing with the" Chinese question, anil mail and 'defence matters. A proposal has aI;»o been made to establish a Federal Court of Appeal. The Australian team hi their match with Adelaide won-by seven wickets. Obituary—William Higgett. The six days' pedestrian tournament commenced to-day. Swan and O'Connor are the New Zealand competi.ors. The Intercolonial Conference ha* adopted resolutions in favor of a Court of Appeal in the colonies, and a treaty cf extradition -of absconding debtors and wife 'deserters. The Conference wiil meet at Sydney about Christmas. Nov. 30. If the Conference other colonies will be invited to take pari in its deliberations.. In the walking tournament tripns are doing 12 hours daily. Swan one of the New Zealand competitors, is second. Sydney, Nov. 29. , The Cacogalia has arived from the Solomon Group. The commander and five seamen were surprised and killed by the natives. The Ariel, reported as massing, has arrived all well. Nov. 3().
