GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The annual meeting of the above Council was held at their rooms, iu Timaru, yesterday. All the members present. MiNtmca. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. STATEMENT. The Chairman (Mr Tripp) stated that the meeting was c died for the purpose of electing a Chairman for the next twelve months. He took the opportunity then to thunk the Councillors for the great courtesy and kindness.shown to him during the term of his office, and he had also much pleasure in adding that throughout the County general satisfaction was expressed at the moderation of the Council in all matters connected with South Canterbury. He had done his best to discharge the duties of Chairman to their satisfaction, apd if he had not come up to their wishes in everyth’ng* it was not for want of desire to do so. CORRESPONDENCE., Several letters were read from the General Government, Tiraaru , and other public bodies. election. .. . The election of a chairman was next proceeded with. ,Mr Mondelson, iu a eulogistic speech, proposed, and Mr Scaly seconded, that Mr Tripp bo re-elected Chairman of the Council. Mr Action said he cordially agreed with the resolution.

Mr Wilson also expressed his great satisfaction at the way Mr Tripp had discharged the duties of Chairman, and, although he, did dot agree with hiip in to- , moving the place of meeting to Timaru, ' ho still believed Mr Tripp acted conscientiously in the matter.
