LEAP YEAR.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Leap year documents appear to be the order of the day not a hundred miles from Temuka. A not very youthful bachelor was observed by a friend coming out of the Post Office with a countenance radient with joy, and on being questioned as to the wherefore, he produced a pink piece of paper, aud, was about to explain when he was irreverently interrupted by his friend with, “Oh ! that blessed glove girl again ! She’s worse than the Pinafore with its never ending sisters "Uousins and aunts. It strikes me she wants to start a glove shop !” I have obtained a copy of the document, which runs thusly : ’Tis leap year, therefore you’ll excuse This liberty 1 am taking, I hope that you will not refuse Tiie offer I am making.
They say you have m id© up your mind To disregard the fair, Oh! pray do uot be so unkind, And leave me in despair. How can you lead that wretched life, A bachelor’s must be, Pray take unto yourself a wife, And let that wife be me. If you this offer do reject, The consequence will be, A pair of gloves I shall expect To be addressed to me. Then follows a fictitious signature. SORIBLEHUS.
