ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Oct. 5. The death of M. Offenbach, the well-known French musician and composer, was announced to-day. Deceased was sixty-one years of age. The Australians cricketers left England to-day for the Continent, where they will spend a few days. They then proceed to Suez, and will leave that port by the P. and O. steamer on che 15th for Melbourne and Sydney. The details of the scheme proposed by the Porte for the settlement of the Montenegrin and other questions are now being published. The Sultan agrees to surrender Dulcigno on condition that the naval display is forthwith abandoned, and proposes afterwards to deal with the Greek and Armenian questions. The sculling match between Laycock and Blackman resulted in an easy victory for Haycock, Oct. 6. The scheme for the settlement of the Montenegrin question which has been proposed by the Porte, is considered an insult to Europe. The combined squadrons are now at Oattaro, and there are rumours of any early display before Stamboul. General Riddulph has declared that it is not intended to withdraw from Cyprus.
