THE TIMARU CONVENT SCHOOL.

CONSECRATION CEREMONY. From the South Canterbury Times, Oct. 4, The ceremony of consecrating the Convent School of the Order of tlie Sacred Heart was performed by the Right Rev. Dr Moran, of Dunedin, assisted by the Rev. Father O’Sullivan, principal of the Benedictine monks established : in Auckland, the Rev Father Yardin, admistrator of this diocese in the absence of Bishop Redwood, who is now in Europe, and the Rev Fathers Chatuigner and Goutenoire. The spectacle was witnessed by a large assemblage including many residents. Mass was celebrated in the « church by the Rev Father O'Sullivan before a crowded congregation. Bishop Moran preached an appropriate sermon on the power of faith, and referred to the Convent as an illustration of what faith can achieve. Doling the service a collection was made in aid of the convent fund. T.ie school children and members of the church, bearing banners and appropriately dressed, were marched in procession to the Convent, singing the processional hvrnn. Arrived at the building they lined the porch, and the ceremony of sprinkling the walls and floors with holy water was proceeded with. At Us conclusion the Bishop read au address, setting forth in laudatory ami eloquent terms, the object for which the Convent School has been erected, viz. : The promotion of I primary, secondary and higher ? cucation, i under the guidance, and with the bless.ng of the church. After the address was delivered the children were again formed into procession, and marched back to the chur-h were th-y were dismissed. The C mvent School, which will super, sede the present Girls’ School, will oe supervised by eight ladies, six of whom are teachers, and -vill be conducted on the principle of a Girls’ High -School, the present School building being used for pw* mary education.
