We have been requested io call the attention of farmers and others to a large unreserved sale of stock and implements, in the estate of James Moore, *o fie kpdd by K F. Gray at the Temuka Pound yards, on Tuesday next, at 11 o’clock, when s«me really lots will be submitted. Also, at I o’c a large quantity o,f fat and sitore cattje, dairy cows, sheep, and pigs. The above yards being superior to any in South Canterbury, a large attendance of buyers and sellers of the above are expected. A correspondent sends us the following ; —Thp members of the Temuka Brass Band will, no doubt, ero long, take a prominent pl*ce as musicians In New Zealand ; at Last, if they do not, it will not be their fault, as they are to he heard hard at it every evening, and also Ipte into (he night, in different parts of the town. Some time after ten night a few of them, not satisfied with the amount of “ blow” they had at pracice, treated the residents to a most “ delightful melody.” No doubt it is very pleasing, to the performers, but I
mi'lit. suggest to them' the propriety of reserving their wind for a more suitable ocr. sioii. This treat, I might sl.ite, is given every evening after their visual practice

We learn by telegram that the Government had received intimation on Monday eve- ing that the natives had that day seized several horses belonging to the Armed Constabulary, and had taken them to Parihaka. This last act of the Maoris is regarded as somewhat serious, as it will be impossible to submit to so gross an affront as this. Evidently, things on the West Coast are not very promising. A later telegram from Mr Bryce states that one of the horses found its way back, and the other was to be sent back yesterday. Mr Bryce reports that the natives are becoming more and more insolent and troublesome. They have smashed a number of drain pipes by order of Te Whili, w .osays it is in retaliation for some fencing having been accidentally burneo by a roadside fire. They also endeavoured to s’op a roadside surveyor named Hunt, and prevent his proceu ling along the road, hut Captain Gudgeon happened to be near and came t > the rescue with a detachment of Constabulary, whereupon the natives promptly make off.
