The case against the Sydney Evening News, for contempt of court, for making comments on Judge Windeyer's summing up in an action for libel, has been adjourned for one week. Sailed—Wakatipu, for Wellington Brisbane, Sept 1. A discovery of diamonds is reported as haying been made. At Inverell *tbe blacks bailed up a station* and killed a black, boy. Sept. 2.
Mr D.avid Gaunson has been nominated for the position of Chairman of Committees m the, Legislative Assembly. Mr Ford has been re-appointed by the Berry Ministry, and Mr Green, Resident Engineer, has been dismissed. Further retrenchments are taking place in the nayy, and the local Artillery will shortly be aboljshpd.
