TEMUKA CONTINGENT CANTERBURY UNEMPLOYED.

To> TETEr EDITOR,

Sir,—As lam nt present a member of the above company, could you kindly inform me when that much needed want the (Opihi Bridge) will be likely to be commenced ? and by what body will it be curried on 1 If it is, as I presume, to b« carried! on by the Temuka Road Board, we married men and. ratepayers will probably still have hard times of it. One instance, Mr Editor. There are three, or four sometimes, laboring men employed by the Road Board at daily wages ; one is a married man with large family, that is all right • but why should not married men also, who are most in want of work, be employed iostead of the remaining t hree, who are single men, and huve not any stake or interest in the distriof. Is it right, Sir, or honest, that because a man has been brought here by the surveyor r or any other official, that he should be favored with work to- the- prejudice of the nnempln. cil man. However such is ihe way things are at present, and 1 think that it is high time th»t the Board took steps-to have it discontinued. If such a state of things were earned on in any other district, 3 1 would warrant that there would be an early 1 enquiry and immediate remedy. I tinst I have not encroached upon your valuable space t o much.—l am, &c,
