THE KYEBURN MURDER.
The Otago Daily Times' own correspondent at Naseby telegraphs on August 13 as follows :
' The five Chinamen arrested on suspicion of being implicated in the murder of Mary Aoung at Kyeburn, were brought before the Court to-day and at the request of Superintendant Weldon woro remanded for seven days.'
'At the conclusion of the inquest on Wednesday the Coroner expressed his regret that the evidence, although so lengthy, should in reality be so meagre regarding the important point of throwing light upon the actual perpotra tors of the murder— for that murder had been committed he presumed the Jury could have no doubt. He warned them they should not allow their miada to be biassed by any preconceived opinions, but that they should be guided soley by the evidence before them. Tne only positive poiut of direct evidence they had was the statement of the dying woman, that it was Chinese, not English. If they believed she was capable at the time of understanding what was said to her, they must no doubt arrive at a belief that the murder had been commited by Chinese. There were so ne matters that tended to throw suspicion upon some of the meo in custody, but these did not go beyond suspicion, and he was not able to direct them to any piece of evidence that appeared to fasten any clue compatible with guilt on any particular person.
