CLOCK FOR TEMUKA.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Your article of last Saturday, advocating subscriptions towards a clock to be erected in the spire of the new Catholic Church, is well worthy the serious consideration of theipeople of Temuka. There is no doubt the advantages, which are great, to be gained by the erection of the proposed clock would more than repay those that contribute towards it. The elevated position it won d occupy—the Church being built on high ground—would enable persons to see it at a very great distance. It would also, I beleive, strike every fifteen minutes, and be heard at a distance varying from three to four miles.
It would be a groat pity if this opportunity was allowed pass, as there is no doubt a clock of that description would be a great benefit to Temuka. I would suggest that the inatler be taken up at once by some of our leading men, arid the place canvassed. I think also that the Government might very reason dry be asked to contribute a small sum towards it as there is no doubt it would prove of great convenience to travellers by rail. Hoping that the mailer will uot be allowed to drop.—l am, etc ,
CORRECT TIME,
