PROTESTANT BIGOTRY.
Our Born an Catholic fellow-colonists, through their organ tire Now Zealand : Tablet,' are in the habit of complaining that Catholics are not treated ; like Pro- . . teatants. What would they say if they : ■ were treateddike Freethinkers 1 Let us give an illustration. The Tablet is a Catholic brgah. In discussing politics even, everything ismade subservient to J;_ the. Church. First?comes Catholicism, then comes any national; aspiration, and any political party. If we contrast the •. Echo with the Tablet* we have a news- • paper that looks upon Religion and Poli- • tics as equally entitled to be criticised, and , allows the greatest latitude iu discussing both., And yet what do we find Protestants doing ? Let us glance at the ad- • : vertisementa in the Tablet and those in the Echo. In the former, we find that at least,two-thirds of the advertisers areProi teatants—so that in fact the publication -■ of . the Tablet is-made possible only by Protestant support.« It would be invidious tq particularise the advertisers, though we - may possibly publish a list if our remarks are questioned. . Who then are the bigots? . If we take up any paper purely Protestant, do we find any Catholic advertisers ? Not -.;0.0ne? ■ „■ —. '
