DISCOVERY OF COAL AT THE KAKAHU.

We learn 1 hat Mr Meredith, of the Kakaliu, has at last struck upon a payable seam of coal on his property. The scam is eight feet in thickness, snd surpasses in quality the other* two seams of coal on the same section. This Bft seam was worked by Mr Meredith in 1868,but he did not until lately discover the real seam. As soon as all arrangements are completed, Mr Meredith intends to open a market for the sale of his coal in this town. Ag the coal is superior to that of Shag Point, this will be a great boon to the townspeople. A sample of the coal was sent to the Melbourne Exhibition by Mr Meredith under the care of Mr J. E. Stansell, of Timaru.
