Guinness, Esq (Chairman), and Messrs Gammack, Barker, and Cox, Licensing Commissioners) Mr Olliver applied for a license for the Caledonian Hotel, Temuka A large and influential petition was presented to the Commissioners in favor of the license being granted Mr Olliver produced a plan of intended alterations to be made to the hotel, and he suggested that the license should be granted in consideration of those improvements being carried out within three months The Commissioners considered the improvements considerable, and likely to add to the public’s convenience Mr Olliver said he was an old hotel-keeper On the coast, and the police were in possession of testimonials from there Sorgt Carlyon said he should like to know how Mr Olliver stood as to his interest in the hotel Mr Olliver produced an agreement made between himself and the original owner The additions were to cost LSOO. Sergt Carlyon then handed in several influential testimonials from the West Coast and elsewhere

Mr Jameson said, he simply asked for an for an expression of opinion by the Bench.

The Chairman said there was no doubt that such a house would be a benefit to the district and could see no objection to granting a license : the Bench could not grant the application, but recommended it for future ap plication.
