WINCHESTER SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The urn-il -monthly mooting of tin* above- Committee .was Held in the school* .room bn W dnosday evening lot. Present: Messrs ..Lawrence! Chairman),' T. Svnnton. J. Moire and B. Smith Tae Master’s report for the last month was read, and considered satisfactory. It showed an average attendance of 80.4. Cbnespondence was read from the Board of Education, (1) re summary of attendance for the quarter ending 31at March; (2)stating L 23 Os 4d, for teachers’ salaries, and LI 9s for incidental expenses, had been paid into the National Bank to the credit of the body ; (8) giving the Committee authority to call for tenders for repairs to the school and masters’ house, which were not to exceed L3O 15s; (4) repuesting the Committee to pay the teachers’ salaries on the last day of the month. A letter Was reciived trom the Board of Health, Temuka, enclosing a copy of the Inspector’s report, as to the sanitary arrangements of the Winchester school. Resolved—“ That Messrs G. Taylor, and R. Smith be requested to prep-re specifications and invite tenders for the necessary improvements to the school and the Master’s house as early as possible; that Ll 5 only be expended on the -Master’s house and the remainder on the school.”,',

Resolved—" That a letter be written to the Temuka Board of Health re closets, stating that they are now clean and satisfactory to the Committee, and that the suggestion in the Inspector’s report re pans, will be carried out if the Board will supp’y the same, as the Committed have no grinds for the purpose." It is agreed that a ton of coals and half a cord of firewood he procured for the use of the school at once, and a resolution was passed that an appeal be mad eto the Board of Education for a grant of L 9 8s r or fuel for the school for the winter months.
An application from the farmers’ Club to hold meetings in the schoolroom was, granted, subject to th e usual terms. The Visiting Committee appointed for the ensuing month were Messrs J. Moore an i R. Smith. '
Amounts for teachers’ salaries, L 23 os 4d and Ll 9s tor incidental expenses, were passed for payment. It wss resolved—" That as this Com mittee always meet on tlufirst Wednesday of the month, they cannot follow out the wishes of the Board of Education to par sa’aries on the last day of the month as they are not willing to rescind a former resolution that all amounts be first passed by the Committee.”
