NOVEL GAMBLING.

An accentric poet, who died not 1 rig ago, is related by the correspondent of a French paper to have invented, in company wil.i another Bohemian genius ot a similar type a game of decidedly original and probably of a most exciting nature,.The peculiarity of it was that it could be played not only by the most impecuni. us person, but even by those who had no money or no chance of having any, except by accident. The principle was such as enabled the the player to dispense to a great extent with all such ndwentitious means and appliances as dn-ss draughts, cards,or dice, and to make all theirdaily walks abroad a part of the Qiitcrtaiumeivt. The loser, instead of paying up on the spot, which lie was generally quite unable to do, forfeited to (he other a certain street, qj* theatre, or other place of resort ; and the was, that whenever the winner met him at this p-rticular place, he bad a riylit to search his poexets and extract any money that might be in them at the lime. By degrees the various streets became monopolised in turn by one or other of the gamblers, so that the progress of each of them through the city became a perpetual risk, and as soon as either became the fortuitous possessor of a gold piece or a note he took the greatest pains to avoid trespassing on the regions which he had “lost.”
