TEMUKA RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.
The monthly inspection parade ti>ok jilnre at Volunteer Hall, Tercukn, «u Friday evening last, aU>uv 30 members Wag present, exclusive cf the band, which numbered IC. The company were put through a number of movements by Capt. Young and Lieut. Fimilay. Messra Wm. Hall, Pratley, and Empson were then sworn in as members of the company, making the total strength 69, The company were informed by Capt. Young that Major Lean would inspect them on Thursday evening next, when he expected to see every member present. They were then, dismissed, after which followed the ANNUAL MEETING, there being present 40 members, Uapt. Young in the chair. Minutes being read and confirmed, the Chairman remarked that he was pleased to say two of the company had been successful in obtaining prizes in the recent prize firing, viz., Lieut Findlay and Prv H. Smith. The bal-sheet for 1879-80 was then read by the Secretary, the same being certified to by Messrs Ashwell and Bruce, auditors, showing a credit balance of LlO 9s lOd. After some little discussion as to some of the items, and the same having been satisfactorily explained by the Sec, the following resolution was passed: 'That the bJ-sheet fo* 1879-80, a» read, be adopted." The Sec. said the sum of L 35 84 was still owing by members. Resolved that each member owing money be sent his account. The Chairman stated that he had received a letter from the QuartermasterGeneral in reference to the 10s from-those who went to the Curistchurch Review. He hoped all those who had not paid their 10» would do so at once, so that the total amount might be sent away to headquar" tjrs without further delay. Tho committee members having retired by effluxion of timu, it was necessary elect a committee for the time being,
A voto of thanks having been passed to .tho retiring committee for their Heivieca duri >t th-lr torm <f office, tho fo lowing gent't>mvi were ele- ted us members of the ri»w committee .—Coior-Serge-uifc C-dra, Drum Major Gapes, Sergt Smith, Private McNnlly and Private Sirgarf. Lieut, Findlay wanted to know what the company ww going to do on Queen's Birthday, Various amusements were proposed, Imt it was finally decided that the usual ball take place in the evening, and that the town be canvassed for prizos to be shot for the Hanie day. The following wore elected as a Working; Committee to carry out the necessary arrangements :—Messrs Findlay, Coinu Gapes, Watt, Thomson, and White, with power to add to their number. It was resolved that the ticket* for the ball be 12s 6d and 15s each, nnd 10s for volunteers in uniform, complimentary tickets to be forwarded to ihe officers of the Tituaru Cadets and Artillery, and the CY.G. Lieut Findlay promised a cup, ta be firod for on May 24. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
