SOUTH ORARI SCHOOL.
The South Orari School Committee held their monthly meeting on Saturday, the 17th inst. Present—Messrs ft. A. (Chairman), Brosnahan, :md McLeod. The minutes of the last confirmed. . ... .^^^H
The following corrcspendence was read : —From the Board of Education, stating that the moneys due to the Committee had now been.paid, and .that the plat; cring and n-w maps asked for would be attended to. From the same, reminding the Co:n-mittee-hat the quarterly returns must be sent in not later than five days after the end of the quarter, and requesting them to return the damaged map to the office- '• '• It was resolved—" That Mr Summer be requested to ;ov\vard it at once. A circular lettor from the Board o Education, referring to the planting of school grounds, was considered. Resolved—" That the Board be informed that, as no planting has yet been done, the Committee consider that the sum of LlO will be needful to buy, plant, and fence off, a moderate number of trees of ordinary quality „ From the Teacher, stating that he had closed the school from Good Friday to Tuesday afternoon, and asking »f the Committee approved-of his action. Resolved—" That the Chairman inform Mr Summer that he should not have closed the school during the Easter holidays without having first obtained leave from the Committee at their last meeting, and that in future taey will expect to be consulted at the meeting previous to any holiday time coming on." The Reve. Preston and Sadler, o! Geraldine, having asked permission to uso the schoolroom once a month for Divine service, it was resolved—" That they are welcome to use the schoolroom for that purpose on the second arid fourth Sundays in the month, the first and third Sundays being already taken up by the Revs. Barclay and W. Stewart." From tne Chairman of the Timara School Committee, conveying a meeting of Chairmen to consider the advisability of amending the Education Act. Resolved—'' That the Chairman be requested w represent this Committee at the meeting." The report of N. Brosnahan, the Visitor, was approved, tnd W. Bates appointed Visitor for the ensuing month. It having been intimated to the Committeo that the teacher had altered the school hours, it was resolved—" That he be informed that he must adhere strictly to the hours originally laid down by the Committee, and that no alterations whatever should be made by him without their sanction being first obtained, Also that not mor» than two intervals should be allowed, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, which should not be of more than ten minutes' du. ation each." Resolved —" That the Committeemen who have hitherto not attended tint meetings with any regularity, be requested to do so in the future." The sum o.f LI was passed for payment to W.. Bates for forming and shingling the approaches to the school the Committee expressing themselves much pleased with the manner in which the work had been carried out. The sum of LI lUs also was pasaed to be paid to the Sunday school Treasurer being the amount due to Mr K. Griffiths for ploughing and laying down the school grounds, and genmmßly presented l>y him to the Sunday uchool, fund. The meeting adjourned to the third Saturday in May.
