COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Tsmuka Lbadbk Office, Friday evening. During the past week the weather has been very changeable : iu the first part of it rain continued to pour down ; during the last two days ith-s improved, and large deliveries of grain have been going on at the Temuka and Winchester Railway Stations, crowds of drays continually waiting to be unloadedThe prices quoted last week have undergone but little change. Wheat if anyth=ng, is a little firmer, but oats and barley are almost unsaleable ; indeed, buyers do not seem inclined to buy any kind of grain at present, fearing that wheat may fall in the English market, and oats only give a chance of ,h profit after long atorage. A Government land sale, held in the Volunteer Hall last Tuesday, brought together a large crowd of people, chiefly the working class. The bid was most spiritless, and only a few lots were sold. The demand for land has completely died out ; 10 many have burned their fingers, that it aqts as a caution to others to look before they leap." We hear that largo blocks of land, such as the Seadown and Levels estates, will shortly be in the market. Unless the terms are very liberal we fear that even these fine estates will not realise their full Vgluo. Mr K. F. Gray held a sale on Monday of Mr Upton’s cstut- , ihu highest bid for the house and land being only L 575. The original cost was over LIOOO. The furniture, which had been well selected, brought good prices, and the whole was sold off. A pianoforte, by a Paris manufacturer, Was sold for L 36, and it was considered a good price. The house and laud was Uougi.t in by one of the trustees. The sale of horses, cattle, etc., held liy Mr Gray at the Temuka pound saley aids, was poorly attended. The season is nnsuitable for farmers attending.
