THE NATIVE COMMISSION.

Hawera, Feb. 26, The Commissioners got through the bulk of the Native witnesses yesterday afternoon, and these have returned to their homes. So far as the evidence has gone the grievances complained of by the Natives ore not very great, and can be dealt with in a manner Hkley to satisfy all parties. Makora, a Wellington Native, came all the way here and tried to delude the Commissioners into

recognising a claim he put in lor land, and on the ground that he had not fought against us daring the war : hut upon Major Brown showing that Makora subsided and slunk away. The Commissioners expect to complete tneir labours here to-day or to-morrow, and on Saturday morning proceed to New Plymouth. Hone Pekua has been of considerable assistance to the Commissioners in deabng with the Natives. Wellington* Feb. 26.

An occasional correspondent at Hawera telegraphs to the “ Post ” to-night as follow :—The Commission is still hearing claims and disputes here as to the reserves on this side of the river. Hone Pihama, Pepe Heke and Warna are the cheif spokesmen. The Natives on this side of the river seem well content with the dealings of the Government. Manaia is the chief claimant, on tin plains, and is very friendly . and, I believe, thoroughly satisfied with his interview with the Commission.
