TEE ANNUAL TREAT. Tht- children's annual treat in connection with the above school took place at Pleasant Valley on Tlmraday last, arid was n decided success. An abundance of eatables \vj s provided by the lar ies of the district, and ample justice was done to the viands by the youngsters, of whom a large number was in attendance, evidently bent upon making a day of it. In addition to the treat, over £lO was subscribed by the residents ; this amount had been carefully expended in the purchase of articles suitable for prizes, and for which games of all descriptions were got up, both young and old entering heartily into the sport. All tended to make the treat one of the most enjoyable over yet held in the Pleasant Valley district.
THE CONCERT. In the evening the schoolroom was packed to the door, and, notwithstanding that P- nunibcr.cf ladies and gontiemen
who had promised to take part in the proceedings did mt appear, a most enjoyable evening Was spent. The entertainment was otie of the usivd kind, consisting mninly of songs, recitations, e'c. Among those who took p'rt in the proceedings we notif-ed—Mrs' F. Wilson and Miss Turner, from Tiruaru ; the Misses Fish and Mrs -Nation ; Messrs Slack, Payner and Dr Fish ; the children of th» school and their teacher, Mr King. The Rev. G. Barclay, of Geraldine, o<-cupi?d the chair. It would he useless for us to attempt to pi-aise one more than the other, as almost all were encored and heartily applauded. Our Timsira visitors perhaps deserve a passing notice. Being too late to hear the first solo given by each of those lad : es, we can only spenk of the ones we did hear. "The Bonnie Kills of Scotland," by Mrs Wtl'ion, and "Whip Poor Will," by Miss Turner, were in themselves worth the few miles ride to hear, and wo are glad to say were properly appreciated. The Misses Fish performed at the piano in their usual brilliant manner, and are so well-known to our readers that comment by us is unnecessary. The recitations by Dr Fish, Mr King, and tb/> schoolchildren were all v?ry amusing, some of the youngstersshowiogconsiderable talent in the way they rendered their pieces. Mr Slack and Mr H. Ilayner were well appreciated in their respective solos. A hearty vote of thnnks was accorded to the ladies who had so liberally provided tea, and to Mr and Mrs King," for the manner they had brought the entertainment to such a successful issue. Mr King repl : ed, arcl thanked those ladies and gentlemen who had so kindly assisted during the evening. A rote of thanks to the Chairman then terminated a moat enjoyable entertainment.
THE DAK"CE. After the room had been cleared, music was commeuced, and the lovers of the light fantastic tripped it out " till daylight did appear."
