A paper was read at the Bradford Chamber of Commerce on the colonial empire. It commented on the great m crease of trade, and-spoke of the colonies aa a splendid field for the laborer and small capitalist. It condemned the remissnees of England in not providing for the defence of the colonies, a'd considered coaling stations urgently required ; also dock accomodati-.n ; -d eulogised the recent action of Victoria in providing defence. It advocated a federal council m •Etrdand for the colonies.
