C.J.C. SPRING MEETING. Second Dat. Christchurch, Friday. The second day's races took place yesterday,the weather being very unfavorable, but that did not hinder the large concourse of people who were on the ground from a good day's sport. His Excellency and suite were in attendance. The following aro the results: RAILWAY PLATE. Maiitana - *'.:*- • 1 Billingsgate - - - -2 Tim Whiffler - - * 3 On starting all horses ran in a cluster, but on coming up the straight Tim Whiffler put on.a good spurt and left all behind, excepting Maiitana and Billingsgate, who made the running warm frr the colt. The three thon closed up, when Maritana shot in front by a neck, Billingsgate and Tim Whiffler coming in almost a dead heat. This was a grand and exciting race throughout. CANTERBURY CUP. Betrayer - - - - 1 Hornby - - - -2 Templeton - - - . ■ - 3 Hornby, in this race, made the racing very hard for Betrayer, who was a little too much for his opponent. On turning the corner Templeton was leading, but when half way up Betrayer was level with him, winning by nearly a length, with Hornby second and Templeton thiru, whohad been eased off. SPRING STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP. Little John - - - - 1 Te Whetu - - ; - -2 Only two started for this event, Lonehand having been scratched ; Te Whetu could not be made to stir, thus leaving, a ' walk over for Little John. \ tradesmen's handicap. THIRD DAY. (By Electric Telegraph.) (fkom our own correspondent.) Cheistciiubch, Nov. 14. The following is the result of to-day's races:— CHRISTCHURCH PLATE. Mr Ray's Templeton. aged, 9st 71b - • 1 Mr Walter's Grand Duchess, 3yrs, 6st -2 Mr Griffith's Betrayer, 3yrs, 7st 111 b - 3 Temvleton took the lead, and kept it from start to finish, being never called upon to go, and won by a length. publicans' steeplechase handicap. Mr D. O'Brien's Little John, syrs, lOst - 1 Mr Butler's Te Whetu, aged, list 71b -2 Mr Butler's Agent, 6yrs, 12st 71b - - 3 Mr Butler declared to win with Te Whetu Silverstream and Robin Hood also ran. Silverstream negotiated the first hurdle, followed by Little John. Little John then took the lead, followed by Silverstream, the Agent and Te Whetu close up. This order was maintained until the third hurdle was reached, when the situation was changed. Silverstream fell at the sixth hurdle, and Little John waa then seven or eight lengths ahead. When the straight was readied, Te Whetu was called upon, but to no purpose, Little John winning easily. METROPOLITAN HANDICAP. Mr Mullock's Foul Play, syrs, 9sfc - - 1 Mr Ray's Hornby, 3yrs, Bst 51b - -2 Mr Goodman's York, 3yrs, 7st 81b - - 3 Foul Play won easily by a length and a half, not being pressed to go. SELLING RACE. Mason and Tallance's Sinking Fund - 1 Mr Walter's Billingsgate, 7st 91b - -2 Mr Mallock's On Dit, 7st 91b - - - 3 Sinking Fund won easily by two lengths. CONSOLATION HANDICAP.
