The Minister for Education infoi’med a clerical deputation that no obstacle would be placed in the way of ministers using State schools for religious instruction after school hours. If religious bodies would prepare scriptural lessons which would not infringe on secular principles, he would be willing to use them in State schools.

Tim report of the Land Commission has been issued. The Commission are of opinion the requirements of the country will be met by the re-enactment of the provisions of the Land Act of 1878 and those Acts of 1869 which deal with agricultural settlement. The Commission are of opinion that the present squatting tenure should not bo renewed, as it constitutes an unjust monopoly. All runs should be created from 1000 and 2000 acres to 10,000 acres, and should bo let for 10 years by free selection; no person to hold more than one run under penalty of forfeiture.
