~-, --"Wedsbsday, September 24th. Before Frank* McGuinness, Esq., R.M. T. Partes, charged with being drunk whilst in charge of a horse, did not appear when called upon. His Worship ordered a summons ] to bo issued. A-man charged with being drunk and behaving in a riotous manner was fined 5s and costs. LABOENY. Christian Hansen was charged with stealing: two hooks from the Winchester Hotel. Thi/1 prisoner was undefended by counsel. <^H Percy Carlyon, sworn, said, lam Serg<* U of Police stationed at Temuka. From mation received I won* M&e . "borfse of accused, in company; Mr .Gray. I saw accused take possession of the book produced, and heard- tfc* accused say— You haven t anything *t dd"w ith that; I borrowed it from S^i r £on."j I arrested the accused and charged stealing it. Tvomas Swinton deposed—l-jam owner of f/ie Winchester Hotel. The prisoner has been in my hotel several times/' I missed two mechanical books from the house: I identify the book produced from the fact that last Sunday fortnight I marked it and placed it in the front dining room. I saw the book in Mr Gray's possession on Tuesday night. I have also lost another book, and valued at 50s. K. F. Gray said —I recognise the book produced. I saw it at Mr Martin's, Geraldine Bush. I took it and brought it to the Winchester Hotel I then handed it over to the police. I sold several books with the estate of the prisoner. I cannot say if there was any book oniengineering sold at that time. Prisoner not being ready with his defence, thercase was remanded till next Court day, bail being allowed, accused in £IOO, and two sureties of £SO each. _. !
