FOOTBALL.

Timatm v. Temuka.

This match took place at Temnka on' Saturday. On account of the weather, Timaru played 1 man short, and Temnka three. - Craig captained the Timaru team. Tavender doing the same for Tomnka. Play was commenced by Timaru kicking off. Temuka decidedly had the best of it in the, first spell, forcing Timaru to touch-' down-twice in salt-defence, but were not able to score. In the second spell Temuka kicked off, and kept th« ball unpleasantly near the Timaru gaol, but the Timaru backs, collaring well, staved the Temnka men off for some time. Towards the last of the spell, one of the Temuka men managed to get behind the coveted go<d line, and made a touch-down, but although the try was an easy one, failed to score. In the third spell Timaru kicked off, and following up well, kept the ball near the Temnka goal, but the Temuka men for some time defied all attempts to get behind their line. Towards the close of the spell. Cliff, by a very clever run, got behr d the Temnka goal line, and although the trv was a very difficult one, W. King : kicked a goal, and time was called i soo • afterwards. In the fourth spell Timaru lost their best forwards, while Tetanka received a fresh hand, and so they had this spell pretty well their own way. Their team, being a very heavy;one, pushed through all the scrimmages, and the Timaru backs, being thoroughly played out, could not stop them. Temuka got three touch-downs in the spell, hut were unable to a goal, although the tries were ridiculously easy ones. When time was called Timaru had scored one goal and one touch-down ; four touch-downs. Timaru therefore won the match. For Timam. Cliff, Chapman, Isemongcs, and Oaig did good service, and for Temuka, Tavender, Wood, Craig, and .Roberts played very hard.
