PROROGATION OF PARLIAMENT.

The House met at noon on Monday. The Acting-Speaker announced the Governor’s assent to the Bills passed during the session. At one o’clock Parliament was prorogued by commission, the Commissioners being the lion. Colonel Whitmore, Sir. William Fitzberbert, and Sir F. D. Bell. The piorogation was formally to the Ist of September.

PARLIAMENTARY ITEMS. — Auckland, August 11. The Rov. D. Bruce is mentioned as a candidate for Eden. Mr. McMinu meets his constituents at Te Awamutu on Saturday. Am enthusiastic meeting was held at the Thames to secure the return of Sir George Grey and Mr. Sheehan. An amendment was*proposed that action was premature. Wellington, August 11.

Dr. Newman has announced himself as r. candidate for Wellington City, and Mr. C. B. Izard for the country district. Mr. W. H. Quick will contest tho Hutt seat against Mr. Jackson. Westport, August 11.

Mr. Henry, the present member, and Mr. John Mmiro, a Liberal, will be the only candidates for the Buffer, distric*. Christchurch, August 11.

Mr. L C. Williams is now mentioned as acandidate for Ashley, and also Mr. R. L. Higgins. Mr. Brown will not stand again for Ashley. ”No opponent to Mr. Bowen at Kaiapoi is yet heard of. Dunedin, August 11. Messrs. C. S. Reeves and H. 0. Fish are mentioned as probable candidates for the city. Mr. Seaton will not-seek re-election for Caversbam

Mr. D. L. Simpson, Mayor of Mornington, has been asked to stand for Roslyn.
