Nicholson, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, has informed the ‘ Herald’ that lie has some very important information that he hopes will lead to a meeting. He says it is beyond doubt that Ned Kelly is well supplied with newspapers, and knows thoroughly well what is going on, and so has been able to keep out of the way of -the black trackers, of whom he is believed to stand in wholesome dread. The Melbourne correspondent of the Hamilton ‘ Spectator’ says that he lately made inquiries of a gentleman in business in one of the chief townships in the Kelly country as to the truth ot the sympathy statement. “ Sympathy !” said the gentleman, “ I believe you ! We are all Kelly sympathisers up here. We were never so prosperous in the district. What between the circulation of the Kellys’ money on the one hand, and the Government money on the other, everybody's doing well, and business never was so brisk. Look here, ” he continued, “ we are
talking freedy, for I know you, and the senlinmnt all over this district is, £ Long life to the Kellys !’—although of course it is not openly expressed'’ The mailman leaving Walgett for Nariabri was fired at, and news has since arrived of the capture of the bushranger. The locality being that supposed to have been chosen by the Kelly gang, they of course got credit for the outrage, but it 'turns out to be another party. ' ■
