GRAIN AKD FLO UK MARKETS. CiiTUSTCUTTBCir, June 5. The first week of the now montfj shows up much better than the preceding one in the extent of business transacted. Although the increased inquiry is not so extensive as could be wished, yet, compared with the operations of the previous four weeks, it is a decided and pleasing improvement. The fourth of the month lias passed over only moderately well. Applications for assistance have been considerable, but as a determined stand has been made against renewals in any shape, the weak ones will very speedily be reached. The week, unfortunately, has not been altogether free from embarrassments, but still liabilities in most cases are not of serious moment. Receipts of wheat from the country are confined to almost retail lots, which leads to the inference that but little more remains in growers' hands. Good sound milling and seed samples find ready sale at 3s od to 3a Gd respectively, and ordinary and fair at 3s 2u to 3s 4d. For flour the demand is very limited ; there is, however, no alteration in price, quotations remaining at £8 ss. The exports during the past month show unfavorably as compared with those of the preceding, the figures being—May, 190 tons ; April, 4GO tons. There is no change in the oat market. Prices in Southern districts are so low as to draw all orders there. Business in barley is purely nominal, -as the few holders there are will not accept present prices. Potatoes are in good demand at £3 5s to £3 10s at country railway stations, but farmers still hold to the idea tliilb much better prices will rule by and bye, and decline to sell at above prices. In butter and cheese there is nothing to report. Carers advise a fair demand for hams. Bacon (new cure) at 8d bare and BJrd in cloth.
