MORMON WOMEN DECIDE.
A mass meeting- pf Mormon women was held at the theatre on the afternoon of the 26th of February last. It was called in order to pronounce in favor of polygamy, and to counteract the probable interest of the Gentile ladies’ antipolygamy meeting held some few days since. There were about 1200 present, mostly old and polygamous ’ wives. Addresses, music, and a closing prayer constituted the exercises. While one of the women was Speaking, she was interrupted by another in the audience with the remark, “ You’re a liar; Brigham Young was .a prophet of the Lord ! ” No row resulted from the emphatic contradiction and the prophetic assertion. The following are a portion of the resolutions adopted :—Resolved, that we protest against the enactment of any laws which deprive American citizens, whether male or female, of any constitutional right ; that we make united efforts to secure the unanimous voice of the women of our faith to plead the passage of the sixteenth amendment during the coming session of Congress. Resolved, that we solemnly avow our belief in the doctrine of the patriarchal order of marriage—a doctrine which was revealed to and practised by God’s people in past ages, and is now reestahlishent on earth by the divine command of Him who is the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever ; a doctrine which, if lived up to and carried out under the direction of the precepts pertaining to it, and of the higher principles of our nature, would conduce to long life, strength, and the glory of the people practising it ; and we therefore indorse it as one of the most important principles of our holy re’.igon, and claim the right of its practise. The meeting created no enthusiasm among the Mormons and disgusted the Gentiles.
