GIIAIM AIvD FLOUR MARKETS. The following hi the report of the Christchurch Corn Exchange for the week ending clay 3rd ; The continued downward movement in the English wheat market has had the clFect of reducing buyers’ limits here, and owing to this rather less business has during the present week. Growers do not care to accept lower rates than wore ruling a fortnight ago, and buyers’ prices ore fully twopence per bushel less now than then. Good milling and choice seed samples cannot be quoted at over 3s 3d and 3s 4d respectively, and ordinary to fair quality at 3s to 3s 2d, according to .sample. Flour of best brand is without quotable change, sales being effected for trade lots at LS to L 8 ss. Country millers have been offering inducements to buyers during the week, but wo have not heard of any sales. Oats continue without any change for the better, and it is evident that, little business can be done so long as Southern markets- remain at the rates now ruling them. The largo quantity of oats in Otago must, we fear, for soma time keep outside markets from advancing. According to the agricultural statistics, Otago is credited w ith 4,340,940 bushels this year, as against 3,134,244 bushels last year, or an increase of nearly one and a quarter million bushels. Buyers do not appear to wish to do business, and the prices named by them (2s 3d to 2s Gd) has almost stopped any business being clone. Barley is in fair demand at 5s 3d to 5s Gd. The export inquiry is said to have fallen off considerably during the last fortnight. Iso change is reported in grass seed. .Melbourne advices state that there is no sale for it there. Fi’om the same source wo also learn that cocksfoot has declined to Gd there. In potatoes there has been a fair amount of business done at 50s to 555. Wo hear some districts are turning out much better tba.ii was expected, and others far below anticipations. Butter has been freely offered, and sales have been made at 9d. Cheese is neglected, and safes have been forced at 5-|d to Gd. Earns and bacon are out of stock.
