Football Club. —A meeting of the Temuka Football Club is announced to be held at the Eoyal Hotel this evening, at 7.30. Incendiarism: —Our active sergeant of police has been using every exertion to find out the perpetrators of the late fire at Winchester ; it is needless to say, so far, without success. The out-of-the-way place at which the act was done makes it difficult to find any clue to lead to a conviction of the guilty party. It, to all appearance, is likely to remain a mystery. Clearing- Sales. —The various clearing sales of stock, See., that have taken place during the week have realised good prices, notwithstanding the hardness of the times. Land, also, in several instances has changed hands at remarkably high prices, although

the want of money and the scarcity of feed operates seriously against the disposal of anything at the present time. Riot at the Rangitata Hotel. —Alex. O’Neil, Daniel Leary, and Edward Casey, were charged, at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Geraldine, on Tuesday last, on the information of James Watkins, with riotous behaviour in the Rangitata Hotel, on the 25th instant. After hearing the evidence the Court considered the charge proved, and the defendants were fined 40s each and costs, or in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. The same defendants were then charged with assaulting John Murdoch. The offence was committed at the same time and place as the before-mentioned one, and the defendants were fined 10s each, Edward Casey pleaded guilty to a further charge of wilful damage to the property of James Watkins, to the value of 30s, and was ordered to make good the damage done. Oddfellows’ Hall. —The Raphael family have taken the above hall for Saturday night (this evening), and we believe it is in every way suitable for the performance. This clever company never fail to amuse wherever they appear in their drawing-room entertainment, and they go through a long and varied programme. Miss Selina, the lady acrobat and gymnast, is, exceedingly clever in her line of business, and so also is Little Joey, the double and single trapeze performer. We recommend a visit to this troupe as they appear in Temuka for the one night only. The Late Yoluntees Riot. —At the Dunedin Police Court on Thursday the information against Captain Alfred St. George Hamersley, charged on the complaint of William Croker with having, in the Arcade? on the 15th ult., withjldivers other idle persons, to the number of ten or more, rioutously assembled and gathered together to disturb the public peace, and with unlawfully making a great noise and disturbance, was dismissed, neither complainant nor defendant putting in an appearance. Vital Statistics. —During the month just ended eleven births, four deaths, and four marriages have been registered at Temuka.
