o GRAIN AND FLOUR MARKETS. Christchurch, Thursday. On the grain and produce market the ‘Press’ reports;—During the week a considerable business has been transacted in the gi’ain market. Wheat is in active demand, and late prices have been maintained. For really prime milling and seed samples 3s 5d and 3s Cd respectively have been obtained. A good average quality wheat commands 3s 4d. There is a good market for inferior samples for chicken feed, but the supply is altogether unequal to the demand. Oats continue depressed, and very few sales were made during the week, as the fanners prefer holding to accepting rates offered. Buyers offer 2s 5d for feed and 2s 7d for milling, but farmers generally expect at least 2d per bushel more. Barley continues in good demand, although not so much eagerness is shown by buyers as some little time ago. Prime samples an; readily sa cable, at 5s 6d, and other finalities at rates corresponding with quality. In flour a very fair business is reported by the millers, and quotations arc unaltered, at LS to L 8 ss, according to brand. Bran and sharps are in less request, and are quoted at L 4 and L 4 10s respectively. Grass seed still hangs heavily, and shows no improvement. Potatoes are selling freely at 50s. Butter is offering niuiu freely, and some sales are reported at 9d. Cheese is in moderate demand at 7ld. Hams and bacon arc out of stoclc, and are nominally quoted at Bd.
