Gerwax Tariff Proposals.—A proposal has been laid before the Tariff ] Com mission, with the approval of Prince Bismarck, for the taxation of agricultural produce imported into Germany. It is that a duty shall he levied by the hundred weight, rye paying twenty-five pfennings, or about threepence ; barley, oats and wheat, fifty pfenning, or about sixpence ; the duty to lie charged upon live beasts is twenty pfennings (twopence halfpenny) upon cattle, and. a mark (a shilling) upon horses. The Commission has adjourned the debate upon this proposal, desiring to postpone its decision until it lias heard the arguments to be brought forward by those in favor of the motion. It has called upon the mover, acting on behalf of the Imperial Chancellor, to state such arguments in full. jlestructiox of Glasgow Theatre ry Firoe. —-At an early hour on February 2nd, the Theatre Royal, Glasgow, situated in the northern quarter of the city, was totally destroyed by Fire. On the previous night the pantomime of “ Puss ihHloots” was performed for the last time, and was preceded by the melodrama entitled “ The Poacher's Fate.” At a quarter past eleven, the performances being concluded, the whole of the audience wore dismissed. An hour later flames were observed penetrating the roof immediately above the stage. An alarm'was at once raised, ami engines were soon on the spot and j at work, but the fire proceeded, and at four o’clock had burned no everything, there remaining not the slightest vestige of the stage, .stalls, boxes, or gallery.
