HEALTH OFFICER’S REPORT.

The following report was read, and qpasidered from Dr Raynor, Health Officer Temuka, April 1, 1579. To the Chairman and Members of the Local Board of Health. G-extlehex, —Several cases of diptlxeria have been reported to me as having occurred in the district since my last report, but none fatal, so far a; I have officially been informed. I have for a long time advocated the efficient drainage of the town. This is highly essential not only to the residents, -but to those who may visit it upon business ; and should infectious or contagious disease be in this locality then, it may seriously affect those residing out of its boundaries. There is no doubt, from recent investigations at Home, as to the cause of that fatal epidemic, diptheria. much is due to imperfect drainage, and much also to the neglect of sanitary precautions. It is therefore imperative upon every local .Board of Health to adopt such measures as to drainage as the Ac: empowers. I have to report that there are a few cases of w hooping couch, dysentery, and diarrhoea, but none reported to me as fatal. Since my ie.s: report there have been 13 births and -i deaths. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, O. Katxeh, M.D., Medical Officer of Health.
