IN MEMORIAM.
"To the memory of Sergeant Major Kerr, Vho met bis death, by accident on Thursday, 27th February, 1879. Honor to the brave departed, Though in actual war not slain, , kind, yet lien hearted—i__ see Ihe like again. _ * often have wc known it, bloody fray is past, Struck by some chance shot at last. He who faced the Russian legionsSummer's sun and winter's snow India's hot and fevered regions, Stricken sudden, now lies low ; He who tracked the treacherous Maori Through the forest dense and drear, In his manhood's pride and glory Now lies stretched upon his bier. "Widow mourning, orphans crying, Stricken by this dreadful blow, Husband—loving father—dying, Oh ! the fearful scene of woe. May his God—the wish is fervent— Greet him with thy welcome word : "" Come though good and faithful servant Join the army of the Lord."
