The opinion on the ShDokrv Exchange is that it will he taken at 95.*^ The P. and 0. Company have sent in a tender for a fortnightly mail service, at L 85.000, to Australia, and it is probable it will be accepted.
AUSTRALIAN NEWS. The jury at the inquest on Mrs Collins, the scandal of which has been causing much excitement, returned a verdict of “ death from criminal abortion,” but that there was no evidence to show by whom caused, and that the conduct of Dr Crooke had been somewhat suspicious throughout the case. Sir George Bowen was to leave by the steamship Siam on Saturday, the 22nd February. Nothing' has been seen of the Kelly outlaws since the Jerailderie outrage. David Montgomery, a mining manager, fell down a shaft at Sandhurst, and was killed. Parliament is prorogued till the 25th April. Two brothers named Hogan, selectors at Varrawanga, quarrelled on Sunday morning over a raffle, and Thomas shot In’s bruthei James dead on the spot. Thomas Hogan has been arrested for murder.
