The annual meeting ■ f householders of this district, he'd on Monday evening, ms f airly attended. Dr Fish being moved to the, chair, expl ined that the business of the meeting was to rec -iv<* t ie. rep.at of the retirur cmimvttee and to elect a new oiv. The report show at that itie school had mado satisfactory progress during die past year. T..c average attendance ha I increased from 107 at llm end of the previous yiw to 128. The school had been examined by Mr H unmoral (hiring the y.-ar, and his report m> the examination showed that the p -r----centage of passes in the different standards was 84 per cent, the tone of the S' lmol \v..s much improved, and die m-gani-ation and discipline were v< rv satisfactory’. A change had taken place in the st ffol the school, Miss M'Pliee having he-n appointed mistress in place of Mrs Eihy, res'gned. The increase in the average attendance entitled the s hool to an assistant master, and the commit! e had recently recommended that one slum d be appointed. Parents and guardians were request, d to co-operate with the teachers by sending their chil Iren regularly to School. During' the year, the aj preach •o the school had been levelled and shingled. This was found necessary, owing 'o the lodgement of rain .vat'-r about the building. Appdcatmn li d been made to the Board for a grant of funds to enlarge tin* pres nt school buildings, the increase in the attendance rendeting an en'argement necess ry Mr Ke'inan asked the Chairman what length of holidays was al owed daring the year. He said that twelve weeks had l>een given besides odd ha’f days. Reference to the school register showed this to be untrue, the whole of the holidays, inchiding- the extra half days, to only seven weeks ( Mr Reman comp Fined of the matin nr in which sewing was taught His child bad been engaged at tlr* same piece of work for six months. He thought the sewing ought to be ins"e"ted p Tiodioa ly. Mr Dunlop said he had that day seen some very good work that nad been done at sohoo'.
